Scandinavia Survival Guide

Welcome to “Coming To Scandinavia!” As an American living abroad, everyday brings something new in Scandinavia. While there are many similarities to America, Scandinavia remains extremely foreign to my U.S. sensibility.

Coming to Scandinavia is a “sister blog” to Coming to Copenhagen. If you’re interested, you’ll find more background on my decision to relocate from America to Scandinavia there.

I first visited the region in 2003, when assigned to write about Northern Europe’s cruise capital, Copenhagen. Like many others who have visited Denmark’s cosmopolitan capital, I found myself immediately intrigued and eventually smitten. I’ve seldom visited a place where the people were so welcoming, the lifestyle so easy, and the endless summer sunlight, so energizing.

In the coming months, I’ll be visiting other cities and regions in Scandinavia, and I plan to share my impressions through the articles, videos and photos I will post. My goal is to write about Scandinavia in ways that will help visitors, like me, get the most from their time in here.

I also hope to provide tips that will help travelers in practical ways. My aim with this blog is to create a “survival guide” of sorts. What’s there to survive? The expense, for starters. Yes, Scandinavia can be expensive, but during my time here, I’ve learned how to live a good life in Scandinavia for perhaps less than I would have spent in America.

If you live in Scandinavia, I invite you to contribute to this blog in the form of comments and e-mail. If you make your home abroad, submit your e-mail address in the form on this page to be notified each time I post a new item. Or subscribe to the RSS feed.

Thank you for stopping to visit. And please let me know if like me, you too are coming to Scandinavia. I’d enjoy meeting you.
